Frequently Asked Questions

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after childbirth. Unlike medical providers, doulas don’t perform clinical tasks—we focus on helping you feel informed, cared for, and confident.

What does a postpartum doula do?

My focus is to help you heal from birth. Ensuring you rest, nourish your body, and felt seen and heard are my priority. If you're thriving your baby will too.

What’s the difference between a doula and a midwife?

Midwives provide medical care, including monitoring your pregnancy and delivering your baby. A doula is non-medical—we complement your care team by supporting your comfort, advocacy, and overall experience.

Are you a night nanny? Or a doula?

Although a wonderful profession, I am not a nanny. How I make the distinction - a postpartum doula centers on the birthing parent healing in the first 6-8 weeks postpartum. A night nanny or newborn care specialists is focused on baby's care, development, and needs. This is great for around 8 weeks postpartum and beyond.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, but only a few times throughout the year. Currently I accept ONLY Colorado Medicaid, CHP+, and Kaiser. I can also provide superbills/receipts for you to submit to your employer for HSA/FSA reimbursement or payment. Postpartum coverage varies greatly.

Do you replace my partner or support person?

Not at all! A doula works alongside your partner, family, or friends. We give them guidance so they can feel confident in their role, too.

When should I hire a doula?

Most families reach out in the second trimester, but you can hire a doula at any stage—even in the last weeks of pregnancy. Don't wait too long - doulas get booked fast!

Do doulas only support unmedicated births?

No. I support all birth choices—unmedicated, epidural, induction, or cesarean. My role is to help you feel safe, heard, and supported, whatever path your birth takes - and whichever you choose.

How long can a postpartum doula support a family?

Some families want just a few visits in the first weeks, while others have ongoing support for several months. I offer mother-centered care focused on your healing, rather than the typical newborn care options.

Can you help with breastfeeding or bottle feeding?

Absolutely! I support your feeding goals by teaching positioning, troubleshooting common concerns, and connecting you with lactation specialists if needed.

Do you charge travel fees?

Travel within Colorado Springs is included. For families outside the area, I may charge a travel fee—let’s discuss specifics during your consultation. It's usually determined by the weather (usually from December to April).

How do I book your services?

You can submit an application below. I'll determine availability and reach out to schedule an initial consultation to see if we're a good match. After we chat and decide on the right package, a deposit secures your spot on my calendar (no deposit required for clients using insurance).
