A Different Approach to Birth Preparation

Many childbirth classes focus on what might happen without helping you understand why things happen in labor.

This often leaves pregnant people feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure how to respond when birth doesn’t go exactly as planned.

Rooted in Birth takes a different approach.

We focus on the mind–body connection, nervous system support, and informed decision-making so preparation feels grounding instead of overwhelming—and empowering instead of fear-based.

Who This Class Is For

This class is a good fit if you:

  • Are pregnant and want to feel more confident heading into birth
  • Want your partner to feel informed and actively involved
  • Value evidence-based education without pressure or dogma
  • Are planning a hospital, birth center, or home birth
  • Want tools that support both coping and decision-making
  • Are preparing for your first birth or your next one

You don’t need a specific birth plan to take this class—just a desire to feel prepared and supported.

What We’ll Cover (Over 4 Weeks)

Week 1: Fear, Pain & the Mind–Body Connection

We begin by reframing common misconceptions about birth and pain.

  • How fear and stress affect labor
  • Understanding contractions as purposeful work
  • Pain vs intensity and what that distinction offers
  • The Fear–Tension–Pain cycle
  • Tools to support calm, coping, and trust in your body

Week 2: The Stages & Phases of Labor

You’ll learn what’s happening in your body throughout labor.

  • Early, active, and transition labor
  • Pushing, birth, and placental delivery
  • Hormonal and physical changes during each stage
  • What’s normal, what’s not, and when to ask questions
  • The Golden Hour and immediate postpartum priorities

Week 3: Coping, Movement & Comfort Measures

This week is practical and hands-on.

  • Breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Movement and positioning to support labor progress
  • Partner support tools that actually help
  • Using your environment to support labor
  • Comfort measures that work at home, birth centers, and hospitals

Week 4: Birth Preferences, Flexibility & Advocacy

We focus on preparing for decision-making—not just plans.

  • Preferences vs rigid birth plans
  • Informed consent and shared decision-making
  • Understanding common interventions and induction basics
  • Preparing for postpartum and the early days
  • Leaving with clarity, confidence, and flexibility
